MARK YOUR CALENDARS!

The Hub is having its 8th annual “Used Bike Extravaganza!” the weekend of June 2nd and 3rd!

When: Saturday, June 2nd and Sunday, June 3rd
Where: Minnehaha location
Bike drop off week: Wednesday, May 23rd through Friday, June 1st

*******

We Buy Your Used Bikes: Our Extravaganza is an opportunity for customers to sell their bikes and get the full amount in store credit. All bikes must be in safe, rideable condition (besides, the better condition they are in, the faster they sell!). Sellers bring their bikes in the week before the sale to get priced. Start planning for it now!

We Sell Your Used Bikes: For those who are looking, the Extravaganza brings in a wide variety of bikes – from kids’ bikes to cruisers to road bikes and sometimes even a tandem or two! The perfect bike may be waiting for you…Don’t miss out!

*******

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: Who can participate?
A: This sale is open to the public – whether it’s your first time in our shop or you are a seasoned regular! The only requirements are that anyone who wishes to sell a bike needs to be at least 18 years old and have a valid ID.

Q: When can customers bring their bikes in for the weekend?
A: We will be accepting bikes the week and a half before (Wednesday, May 23rd through Friday, June 1st).

Q: What kind of bikes can be sold at the Extravaganza?
A: All styles of bikes, including road bikes, hybrids, tandems, mountain bikes, children’s bikes, trailers, you name it! We ask that the bicycles be bike-shop quality, rather than originally from a department store. Department store bikes (ex. Magna, Mongoose, Vertical, etc.) are not designed to last and don’t provide good ride quality. We can make some exceptions for youth bikes (bikes with wheels that are 24″ or smaller) which are in good condition. We are happy to help you determine if your bike qualifies.

Q: Do the bikes need to work?
A: Bikes must be in ridable condition. We will not be performing tune-ups on these bikes (unless it is arranged), so it is the customer’s responsibility to get safety issues fixed before that weekend.

Q: How will the bike be priced?
A: Customers will ultimately get to choose the price for their bike(s). Staff is available to give advice and help with this process.

Q: Does it cost anything to submit a bike for sale?
A: No! This is a special weekend for our customers. It costs nothing to have your bike sell during the Extravaganza. You will receive 100% off the price in store credit.

Q: What if a bike sells that weekend?
A: Any bike that sells during the Extravaganza will be compensated 100% in store credit. The credit will be issued the week after the sale (it is not available for use during the weekend).

Q: What type of bikes will be at the sale?
A: All type of bikes! Historically we’ve had lots of variety (depending on what people bring in) – including tandems, mountain and road bikes, kids’ bikes, burley trailers and classic cruisers.

Q: What happens to bikes that do not sell during the event?
A: Bikes are discounted by 10% on the second day of the sale – to help get them out of here! Everyone is called on Monday and notified if their bike sold and what their store credit is for those bikes (which isn’t available to be used until Tuesday – it cannot be used during the sale). If they aren’t sold, they must pick up their bikes by Friday of that week. If a customer is interested in trading it in, we can look it over and give them our offer.

Q: The Extravaganza can be really busy on Saturday morning! The hardest part is waiting in line to test ride the bikes. Is there anything I can do to make this process faster? A: Bring your own helmet! We require that all customers wear a helmet for the test rides and we only have a limited number of helmets available at a time.

Q: I have a question that isn’t answered here. Who do I contact?
A: Call us at 612-729-0437 or send an email to amber@thehubbikecoop.biz.

Need more help? There is a Used Bike Buying Seminar!

 When: Fri, June 1, 7pm – 9pm

Where: 3020 Minnehaha ave

Description: Thinking about buying a used bike? Wanna know what to look for? This is the class for you then! This FREE seminar will go over all the ins and outs of buying a used bicycle… Sizing, bike categories, modifications done/needed, wear and tear and safety.

The Hub having a great selection of used bikes is good for everyone. It’s good for you as a consumer, because used bikes can be extremely affordable. It’s great for the environment because it’s one less product that needs to be created.

One of the way that we get quality used bicycles is from you.

If you want to sell your bike(s), just come on down to our 3020 Minnehaha Location (it is the only one of our 3 locations that sells used bikes and components.

Unfortunately, we can’t offer ballpark estimates over the phone. Wear and tear and maintenance varies so much across different people that it is virtually impossible to know how much work we will need to fix them up without seeing the bike.

Once we see the bike, we will then do our best to make an offer. However, we reserve the right to not purchase the bike*. If an offer is extended, payment is distributed by check or store credit.

Check:

Before we issue a check, we run a crosscheck with the city of MPLS database to make sure that the bike isn’t stolen. This process takes approx. 30 days. After the bike clears with database, we issue the seller a check.

Store Credit:

When issuing store credit, we give you %15 percent above what we would offer for a check and the funds are available in your account immediately.

Come on down!

*We do not buy department store bikes (Magna’s, Huffy’s, Next, etc.)

This bike was made to get you into and out of trouble, to be your companion on exploration missions and all day benders, and to get you and your stuff around as quickly as possible.

One of the coolest aspects of the Space Horse project was getting the opportunity to design our second signature dropout. Knowing that we wanted to allow the bike to be used single or geared and designing around fenders, meant that the obvious choice was a semi horizontal. Now semi horizontals are great for allowing single speed use, and unlike rear entry dropouts they don’t require the rider to remove the rear fender to change a flat. But we’ve always felt that the design has a few shortcomings, so we got in there and designed a semi that acts more like a vertical dropout.

The small tab on the front of the dropout in combination with the adjustment screw, not only means that the wheel is fixed in place like a vertical, but that you never have to wonder where you’ll get best shifting. Simply place the wheel fully forward in the dropout and you’re done.

The geometry of the frame set itself, is a mix of traditional road and touring geo’s giving the bike agile head tube and seat tube numbers, a relatively short rear end, but with a lower than road bike bottom bracket for increased stability while loaded. The tube set was chosen with 30lbs rear and 20lbs front max loads in mind.

The Space Horse is rugged, can run whatever drive train you wish, haul crap, and take your cycling experience further.

In stock at our Cedar store. $1399.99

Factor in the comfort provided by stable road geometry, anatomically shaped dual-compound grips that fit your hand with cushioned comfort and a saddle that’s perfect (neither too hard nor too soft, neither too wide nor too narrow) and you’ve found your perfect fitness training partner.

Located at our 301 Cedar Ave. S. store
